The Community Roads Program for Total Peace, driven by the National Institute of Roads (Invías), has recently delivered 41 projects in the department of Antioquia, representing an investment of $9.798 million in construction and oversight. This initiative of the Government of Change, through the Ministry of Transport, aims to transform territories by identifying the rural and tertiary road needs of local communities.
From 2023 to 2024, the program has allocated a total of $22.469 million, which includes 48 new solidarity agreements valued at $12.672 million. The works delivered in Antioquia include over 4 kilometers of "placa huella" (a type of road surface), 612 linear meters of rigid pavement, 46 culverts, 80 French filters, one gabion wall, and one box culvert, improving the transitability of 59.6 kilometers of rural roads in the region.
The delivery event took place in the La Sonadora village in the municipality of Guatapé, benefiting 14,249 inhabitants from 38 rural villages in the department. María Aydé Restrepo, president of the Community Action Board of La Sonadora, emphasized the significance of these works for her community, noting that access was challenging due to the poor road conditions.
At the national level, Invías has managed 1,035 agreements in 2023, with a total investment of $198.816 million, of which 750 have been completed, and 285 are underway, achieving a weighted progress of 80.3%. By the end of 2024, it is expected to complete the execution of 225 kilometers of "placa huella", enhancing transitability and promoting local economy, tourism, and agricultural strengthening.
Juan Carlos Montenegro, General Director of Invías, highlighted the value of community work in the implementation of these projects, stating that it is a demonstration that "the strength of the people is the strength of change," and that these initiatives contribute to the safety and connectivity of the territories.
